Streamwood Real Estate & Information

Streamwood Real Estate & Information

Since the Gold Rush of 1849, few communities sprang up overnight, and fewer avoided the fate of becoming a ghost town later. However, when World War II ended, millions of returning GI's flooded the country, looking for homes in which to start their families. The GI Bill financed 11 million homes in just a few short years. In 1956, a development company named L & H Builders ordered 21 pre-fabricated houses from National Homes Corporation in Indiana. Maxon Construction Company assembled them in the farming area known as Hoosier Grove. In less than two weeks, a community was born. In 1957, the new Village of Streamwood applied for incorporation. Promising a Town of Tomorrow's, the Maxon Company started marketing Streamwood real estate to returning war veterans. The Village had a rocky start as its citizens wrestled control of local services from the company, but their success opened the area to further development and the town developed into the progressive community we know today. In 50 years, the number of residents grew to over 40 thousand.

Many shoppers head to Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale, the Arboretum of South Barrington or Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Woodfield, a Simon Mall, is the 11th largest mall in the country with over 300 retailers to serve shopper's needs.

You can grab a quick bite to eat at Pita BBQ, Minami Restaurant, or the Original Nana's Hot Dogs. Your international choices of cuisine continue with Los Burritos Tapatios and El Rodeo Tacos. Living

Streamwood real estate is available for nearly every price range, starting at about $56,000 and peaking at about $480,000. City Data tells us that mean housing prices in 2011 were $248,457 for all units and $259,295 for detached houses. A home in the midrange would likely be a 40-year-old three-bedroom home of about 2,000 square feet. The Contemporary architectural style would feature such amenities as skylights and vaulted ceilings. Natural gas heating would likely get a boost from a fireplace. Expect beautiful yards with pristine lawns and exquisite landscaping.

School District U-46 serves the Village of Streamwood with six public elementary schools, Heritage, Glenbrook, Hanover Countryside, Oakhill, Ridge Circle and Sunnydale. The two public middle schools for seventh and eighth graders are Canton and Tefft. The two public high schools are Streamwood High and Lifeskills and Education Alternatives, which is part of the Township High School District 211.
